Moving forward!

In England, government is treating covid as if it’s over. From tomorrow, even free lateral flow tests won’t be available (In reality, I couldn’t get hold of them for a while). However, most of us know someone who is currently isolating because of covid, and orchestra fixers are having nightmare dealing with the last minute cancellations. It’s definitely not over and we should still be cautious.

Sadly, I had to postpone the concert I myself have organised on 12 March as well…my whole family caught covid and first half of March passed while we all stayed home.

But that said, I have recovered and we need to move forward.

The new date for my postponed concert is set, now on 24 April, and the flyer with the postponed date is now ready to go!

This Merry Pleasant Spring

Sunday 24 April 4-5pm

at St. Mary’s Parish Church, Handsworth B20 2RW

Join us for an evening of English Renaissance music, celebrating the joy of spring! Soprano, Faye Newton, lutenist, Lynda Sayce and a baroque violinist Miki Takahashi will join together to play some of the famous tunes from Dowland, Campion, Holborne and others including Greensleeves.

Please book tickets from following link:

https://www.trybooking.co.uk/BMDE

Tickets: Adult £12, Youth (under25) £6, Children (under 16) £3

I know we are all under the pressure of rising living costs etc, so no one will check your age at the door. Please feel free to buy any category of tickets you can afford. I’d rather have more audience than people shying away because of ‘unaffordable’ ticket price. That said, full price payment is highly appreciated, as we ourselves do face rising living costs, and now without government support, we have been covering our own loss for cancelling gigs when we test positive!

Health and Safety:

We will fully follow the government guideline and health and safety guidelines of St. Mary’s Parish Church at the time of the concert. However, out of the respect of others, please consider waring face coverings and keep sensible social distance to other group of people at the church. We also aim to refund the ticket price (minus booking fees) if anyone cannot attend the concert because of the covid related reasons.

It will be free seating system, but I am going to make a socially distanced seating area. Please contact a personnel at the concert upon arrival if you wish to stay socially  distanced.

One positive thing about postponing the concert is, that now I had time to visit St. Mary’s Parish Church Handsworth before the concert to do the final check, and even got to listen to their lunch time concert. If you live in Birmingham, I highly recommend you to try going to this beautiful church. They are now launching free lunch time concerts every Wednesday from 1-2pm!

Even under the cold weather, thanks to the refurbishment, they have very good heating and nice kitchen area where they serve sandwiches, samosas, tea and coffee. Yes, it is an old church, but you won’t feel cold there, both physically and psychologically!

I am very excited about this concert, to be able to make music with Faye (soprano) and Lynda (Lute). There are not many occasions for me to play quality small ensemble music, unless I organise it myself (or someone else does it and invites me!).  Most of the paid works come from bigger, pre-organised groups and we don’t get to choose what and with whom we perform. So please come and see three very happy musicians celebrating spring on Sunday 24 April at 4pm in St. Mary’s Parish Church, Handsworth!
