Let’s play Telemann Duet with me!
This is an experiment I am trying now for my students, but I thought I’d share this with others as well.
Here I have recorded Telemann canon for 2 melody instruments, TWV40:118, vivace movement. I am only playing one line, in my case, 1st violin part. If you happen to have a baroque violin, you can join me here and play a duet!
Here is the bowed music.
Let me explain a few things for some of you who might not used to read this kind of music. On the first bar, the X on the top line next to the treble clef is the key signature. Yes, it is in G major, and you need to play F# throughout this piece. On top of the 2nd bar, there is a sign which looks like S with two dots added on top right and bottom left. That means, whoever playing the second melody line (in this case, you) will start playing from the top of the music, when the first person (in this case, me) reaches this bar. You will play your first note, d, on the second beat of this bar. At the end, finish with me, which means your last note is G with the fermata sign on top. Just play G as long as I play. That’s it!
Trills usually start from the note above the written note. But as it is cannon, if you imitate what I do, that’s what all you need.
By the way, you can be creative and add some more extra trills and ornamentations if you fancy!

I know this is not even close to the real chamber music experience, but it is better than nothing. Have fun!
