Miki Takahashi is a baroque violinist, celebrated for her expressive performances as both a soloist and chamber musician across Europe, North and South America, and Asia. She was awarded first prize and the special prize for stylistic ornamentation at the Telemann Competition in Magdeburg, and also received first and audience prizes at the Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges.
Miki has performed as a soloist at international festivals including the Telemann Festival, Leipzig Bach Festival, and Festival Baroque in Nantes. She made her solo recital debut at Tokyo’s Hakuju Hall and The Schubert Club in the U.S., and more recently at Kings Place London, performing Bach’s Solo Sonata and Partita. Her repertoire spans from early baroque to contemporary music.
She has appeared with renowned ensembles such as Il Gardellino and Collegium Musicum 90, and is currently a leader of St. James’s Baroque and co-leader of the Feinstein Ensemble. She also performs regularly with the English Concert, Gabrieli Consort, Instruments of Time and Truth, and the Early Opera Company to name a few.
Miki studied at Toho Gakuen School of Music in Japan before continuing her training in Canada at the Glenn Gould School and in Germany at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Her international studies with distinguished teachers have also shaped her passion for teaching.
She has given masterclasses at institutions such as Debrecen University, the St. Paul Conservatory, and universities in Taiwan, and is currently a visiting tutor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and University of Birmingham. Most recently, she led successful Baroque Discovery Days at The King’s School and St. Peter’s High School in Gloucester, introducing Baroque music and instruments to young minds. Miki is also a proud mother of two, always balancing music and motherhood with joy.
